Saint Mary's University

Registration form

Explanations

Number of teams. The Texas Regonal Ethics bowl is open to any college or university in the country. This means that there may be an unusually large number of schools applying. Placement in the competition is on a "first come first served" basis. You may still, as ever before, enter as many teams as you wish. However, in the event that there are too many teams for the available number of rooms, we reserve the right to drop a team from a school that has entered more than one team.

Team names. If your team wishes to adopt a name, please include it, otherwise, multiple teams from the same school will be arbitrarily color-coded (e.g., St. Mary's University, "Blue"). Team names or color-code names will appear on registration packets, pairing charts, and "table tents."

Shirt size. We will continue the traditional practice of distributing souvenir t-shirts in a variety of sizes. If you want any size of t-shirt other than "Large," please indicate which sizes and how many on the registration form. The idea is to give one shirt to each team member, and one for a faculty member--coaches, sponsors, and co-sponsors must either fight it out or pick from the leftovers.

Clans. Each school should, in principle, still be able to send more than one team to the national ethics bowl. So, schools must register by "clans." Each clan, which may consist of one or more teams, will be competing for exactly one place at the national event. If any team from a clan wins a place, the team that goes to the national event may be drawn from any team in the clan. If different schools in your university wish to enter toatally distinct teams, your university may register more than one clan and compete for more than one place. For instance, suppose Goodman University has three teams, one from students in a forensics club, and two from a for-credit ethics course. You would then register a one-team clan from forensics and a two-team clan from the ethics course, and each clan would tehn pay a $50 National Ethics Bowl fee plus a $25 regional fee for each team. When the regional event takes place, no teams from the same clan and no clans from the same school will face each other.

Fee schedule: $50 per school plus $25 per team.

Special Dietary Restrictions: I intend to offer a lunch buffet while we are waiting for the scores to be tallied. Please let me know of any special dietary restrictions your team members may have. If I can accommodate them, I will try to do so. Examples: "Three vegetarian," "One non-dairy," "Two non-beef." I can't guarantee these accommodations, but I can try to honor the requests.
